Navigate to XQuartz’s website and under the Quick Download heading, click on XQuartz-2.7.11.dmg (as of this writing, April 2020).
If you’re on OS X 10.8 or later, you will also want to install XQuartz. 
Navigate to this website (clicking on the link opens it in a new tab) and under Latest release, click on the latest R-x.x.x.pkg binary. Click ‘Next >’ to accept the settings, or set your preference (for example, where R should be installed to, or whether or not to create a Desktop icon). For the most part, the default settings suggested by the Windows installer are sensible. Once downloaded, on your computer find the R-3.6.3-win.exe (again, as of this writing) executable file, double-click to run it and an installation wizard (“installer”) will take you through the rest of the installation process. Navigate to the website (clicking on the link opens it in a new tab) and click on Download R x.x.x for Windows (3.6.3 as of this writing, April 2020). You can test that the executables are working by trying the following in R library(nat) cmtk.dof2mat(version = TRUE) which should then respond with “3.3.1” if you have installed the CMTK version we have just mentioned. The nat function cmtk.bindir() should now correctly identify the CMTK binary directory. Optionally add C:\cygwin64\bin to your windows path (since v1.8.10 nat should look after this - see ?cmtk.bindir). Start a Cygwin terminal and issue the following command tar -xvf CMTK-3.3.1-CYGWIN-x86_64.tar.gz to extract CMTK to the cygwin folder. Download CMTK-3.3.1-CYGWIN-x86_64.tar.gz to the cygwin folder ( C:\cygwin64). (fftw3 is a CMTK dependency which provides fast Fourier transform functions) 
When you run Cygwin’s setup.exe, you should also install all fftw3 packages.Install Cygwin accepting the default path C:\cygwin64.It is recommended that follow the steps for installing the development version of nat straight from github as described in section Development version You must ensure that you have at least version nat v1.8.5.Experiments in May 2016 suggest that the best option is to use the cygwin CMTK distribution (cygwin provides a linux like environment). We have much less experience using CMTK on Windows than on Mac/Linux platforms.
